ALGEBRA 1
Algebra 1 at Orcutt Academy is a year-long course. In this course, students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations. This course is consistent with the California Common Core standards for Algebra 1. The primary text for the class is the CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics) Core Connections Algebra book. MS. HUBBARD
I believe the study of mathematics has the ability to improve critical thinking and problem solving skills, create a state of flow that has therapeutic benefits, and foster a deep understanding of the world around us. As a teacher of mathematics, I realize that learning math is not always easy. Therefore, I encourage students to work at their own pace, with the help of their peers, to learn the foundational concepts and progressively build upon that knowlegde to tackle more advanced problems.
